This Is How We Do It

Every project is a puzzle and an opportunity

While we don’t have a one-size-fits-all approach to projects, we do have an overarching process we use to create great work. It ensures that from beginning to end, we’re designing thoughtful, meaningful and unique brand experiences.

Our Process

Understand

Building a brand requires surfacing fundamental truths about your company. We take the time to form that deep knowledge about your vision, goals and what drives you.

Strategize

With that, we are able to formulate a plan to get you where you want to be. This strategy informs everything from color to website platform.

Create

With our plan in place, we translate those fundamental truths into a dynamic expression of your brand — a digital world where your story is told. It’s not just a website: it’s thoughtfully crafted reflection of your vision.

Collaboration

We believe in the power of “we” over “I”, that we are at our very best when we work together, and that the input, feedback and shared creativity of our clients and teammates only makes our work better.

Creativity

Imagination is central to all that we do. It informs the way we design, the way we code, the way we promote, the way we solve problems. It’s not just for the “creatives”

Curiosity

We’re eager to learn new techniques, explore new areas, tackle new challenges. We don’t rinse and repeat solutions. We (almost) never say never.

Not just great according to our moms…

We have a digital – and real! – award shelf that we’re pretty proud of.

COLLABORATIVE TO THE CORE

Our teams aren’t siloed off from each other, only chatting when absolutely necessary. We regularly meet to bounce ideas off each other. We will often work across disciplines: designers code, developers work out project timelines, and account teams write and critique. It’s important to fostering great ideas that are still feasible and useful.

Justin Perricone

Senior UX Strategist

As ICS’s Senior UX Strategist, Justin uses research and design to create a user experience that aligns business goals with best practices in modern user-centered design. He also heads up the ICS Apprenticeship program.

Since 2011, he has presented numerous talks on freelancing, typography, and printing at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, AIGA Boston, Rhode Island School of Design, and for the National Chapter of the Graphic Artists Guild.

Justin is a native Floridian (get the jokes out now) and before his life as a designer, he worked in a tiny restaurant making fried rice and loose-meat sandwiches and spent two years teaching third grade in a small border town in South Texas. He now resides in Melrose, MA with his wife and two kiddos. He spends his spare time road and mountain biking, taking photos, cooking, and being the token old guy at the punk show.

Beth Gesuero

Partner

Beth is a partner at Image Conscious Studios. She was ICS’s first official hire, coming on board early on and helping to shape the studio’s direction, as well as its output. She works closely with her partner (and husband) Adam, helping set the strategic vision of ICS. In years past, she’s created everything from logos and websites to Viewmaster presentations and super hero illustrations.

These days, she splits up her time between helping to run ICS, and being run down by her two little boys. When she’s not doing either of those, she’s creating artwork in her studio, or blissfully curled up with a cat and a blankie. She also invented Steely Dan, and never met a cheese she didn’t like.

Thandiwe Tembo

Jr. UX Designer

Originally from Maryland, her first introduction to web development was customizing her Tumblr blog with pictures from photography class. Eventually finding her way into UI/UX design, she developed a love of creating cool things for cool people.

Outside of work, you’ll probably find her on a run listening to a new podcast, baking for the 3rd time that week, or visiting a Smithsonian museum for the hundredth time.

Christine Page

Senior Project Manager

As senior digital project manager, Christine guides projects from beginning to end ensuring transparency, quality, and accuracy in time and budget. She thrives on the left-brain challenge of tasking, deadlines, schedules, and strategic planning layered on top of the right-brain creative and innovative problem solving ICS undertakes everyday, all day. Christine’s background in education management, evaluation planning, and mediation allows her to manage that delicate PM balance of cheerleader and taskmaster.

When she’s not poring over spreadsheets and sending funny gifs to keep afternoons interesting at the studio, Christine is typically adventuring with her two lads, Liam and Gavin. Although most of her time is spent bike riding, building forts, and cleaning her children, Christine often finds time to spend on her first love- oil painting.

Danielle Sharples

Art Director

As an Art Director at ICS, Danielle develops an array of visual designs for brand identities and digital systems. She is an abstract thinker who strives to create thoughtful designs that align with the creative strategy and user experience. She’s also a firm believer in curiosity and has a knack for learning new design skills whenever a challenge arises.

Danielle currently resides in Providence, Rhode Island with her lazy pup, Layla. Outside of work, she enjoys shooting street photography, planning outdoor adventures, playing tabletop games with friends, and mastering the art of tacos.

Zoe Moutsos

Account Director

Zoe is the Account Director at ICS. She helps clients dig deep to uncover innate truths about their brand and then works with the super talented strategists, designers, developers and project managers at ICS to bring those brands to life. She’s a firm believer that a strong, research-based, strategic foundation results in the best work—whether that’s a website, a messaging framework, or a customer journey.

When she’s not learning all there is to know about her clients and their industries (she’s specifically focused on clean energy and biotech), Zoe likes to take walks with her dog George (where she listens to ALL the scammer podcasts), hang out with her kiddo and hubs, and drink a lot of coffee. She swears she’s not as boring as this sounds … but maybe she is.

Adam Gesuero

Partner & Creative Director

Adam is the founder and creative director at Image Conscious Studios. He believes great design is as much about communication and solving problems as it is about creating beautiful stuff. Every day, Adam works with both clients and the team to set strategy, provide creative direction, and ensure the work ICS produces is the best it can be. He can even push a mean pixel or two. He also drives the vision of the agency, ensuring ICS is always reaching towards the future.

Before ICS, he started out as a freelance designer and photographer, and cut his teeth at various agencies and start-ups around Boston (back when they were called “dot-coms”). He’s old enough to remember when Flash websites were cool (right?), has two hellraisers beautiful little boys, and runs ICS alongside his smarter, prettier other half, Beth. He was a musician in a former life, was instrumental in setting up the studio bar cart, and thinks Twin Peaks should be required viewing.

Shannon Regan

Art Director

As the Art Director at ICS, Shannon leads the design team in developing engaging brand identities and user-interface systems while ensuring alignment of the visual experience across multiple platforms. She helps push the design vision by executing solutions that are smart, memorable, and user-centered. She is equally passionate about designing elegant visual experiences as she is in using design research as a source of insight while solving complex problems.

Shannon finds comfort in a classic New York bagel (sorry Boston, you’ll never compare) old-timey music, and a good peated scotch. When she’s not obsessing over typography, she spends her time perusing vintage markets for unusual antiques, folk art and ephemera.

Katie Bumatay

Senior UX Designer

Officially speaking, Katie is a Senior UX Designer, but she more than dabbles in all things strategy, branding, logo, UI Design, and development too. She loves making things make sense, whether that’s solving a complex client need, or always being ready to justify her design decisions. She won’t back down from a challenge, and is constantly learning new skills and tools to expand the possibilities of what ICS can do.

If she ever gets lost, first check the local ice cream shops – she’s probably there. If not, you might find her in the middle of the lake on a paddle board, somewhere on a mountain still trying to land a 360 on skis, on the soccer field, or in a thrift shop or craft store (or both at her favorite second-hand craft store).

Chelsea Borg

Designer

A Boston native and Massachusetts College of Art and Design graduate, Chelsea is a UI and brand designer who loves finding unconventional strategies for solving complex design challenges. This has lead her to exploring many new skills at ICS, like front-end development, animation, and scientific illustration.

Chelsea spends a lot of her time outside of work cooking extravagant meals and writing her own recipes. She enjoys interrupting movies to identify background actors, and engaging in stimulating intellectual debates with her cat, Garbanzo.

Brett Harned

Head of Operations

Brett Harned is one of the founding voices of the growing digital project management community. He launched the Digital PM Summit in 2012, and over the past decade has since hosted and spoken to audiences globally. His first book Project Management for Humans was published in July 2017, and his podcast Sprints and Milestones launched in April 2018. His wealth of successful online classes, a YouTube series, and numerous bylines further underscore his experience in consulting and coaching agency and creative teams.

As an independent consultant, coach, and strategist at Same Team Partners, he applies his breadth of knowledge and experience to help clients solve complex challenges around people, processes, and culture. Brett was Vice President of Project Management at award-winning web design agency Happy Cog and a senior PM at global digital agency Razorfish. As a project manager, strategist, and consultant, he’s led capital campaigns, managed enterprise website redesigns, and produced new iOS and Android products for Zappos, MTV, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Pfizer, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Harvard University.

Ryan Sherwood

Senior Project Manager

Ryan is a Senior Project Manager at ICS and his role is to help teams deliver successful projects. He is passionate about all things organization and problem-solving. Previously working in the film industry, Ryan has spent time on a wide variety of projects in his career ranging from interactive museum exhibits to Shark Week episodes.

Ryan was born in Texas but considers himself a New Englander at heart. He can usually be found hanging out with his wife Amelia and two pups (Maggie & Benji). He loves to travel (preferably somewhere near the ocean) and try different local foods. One time he pet a baby grey whale in the wild and hasn’t stopped talking about it since. Most days, he typically spends time at home reading, playing video games, and drinking questionable amounts of cold brew. Also an unashamed Taco Bell fan.

Mandeep Kaur

Junior Designer

Based in Boston, Mandeep has always had an affinity for design. Her passion for art was amplified during her first painting class in college and her curiosity eventually led her to discover UX/UI design. She enjoys bringing her love for art and creative problem-solving skills to any project she encounters.

Outside of work, you can find her painting or drawing her next realism piece, rewatching The Office episodes for the twentieth time, or relaxing with a good book in her backyard.

Aliyah Goode

Project Manager

Meet Aliyah, a project manager based in Omaha, NE. Whether it’s wrangling timelines or untangling complexities, Aliyah’s passion for organization fuels her mission to deliver projects with precision and style. Armed with color-coded spreadsheets and a toolbox of efficient solutions, she strives to turn chaos into harmony, deadlines into victories, and stakeholders into long-time partners.

In her free time, Aliyah indulges her passion for the living world, both in the form of animals and plants. Fascinated by the unconventional, her home hosts an array of intriguing creatures, from creepy crawlies to slithering companions. When she’s not cuddling up with her fur babies or adding to her indoor jungle, you can find her lost in a digital canvas creating kawaii-inspired characters.

Stefanie Gesuero

Account Manager

Stefanie brings a laundry list of management experiences and skills from working with international marketing companies in Europe and Eastern Europe. She strives to maintain healthy relationships between both parties for current and future projects.

A girl from Connecticut, Stef has traveled the world. She spent several years living in Eastern Europe, picking up her second language along the way. Stef’s #1 job is raising her two girls and busy with her mini zoo of rescues, 2 dogs and 4 cats. In her minimal spare time, she enjoys some quiet moments with some bubbly!

Adam Riggs

Developer

Adam grew up in the wilds of northern Michigan and had to literally shovel a path for himself downstate to attend college. Along the way he worked at several restaurants and learned enough about dealing with the public that he now enjoys sitting at home with his wife and two cats while writing code.

Outside of work, Adam enjoys cooking, running, and trying to find a camping spot in the woods that is as pristine and free of people as where he grew up.

Logan Wisniewski

Senior Developer

Logan has 12+ years of experience developing enterprise level websites and web applications. He is a well-rounded developer with a robust knowledge of WordPress and Gutenberg which he uses to build high-quality Content Management Systems. He is responsible for leading the development of all our projects, while also providing guidance and counsel for other developers on the team.

Logan leads a life of perpetual globetrotting as a full-time digital nomad. For him, music is a form of self-expression, which often translates in his constant singing, humming and whistling. Furthermore, he is deeply passionate about adjusting traditional recipes to be catered to his vegetarian wife’s dietary needs.
